Biden’s Plan:

• Increase the refugee admission quota from 18,000 to 125,000

• End Trump’s policies that have drastically restricted access to asylum, specifically Trump’s Migrant Protection Protocols, a policy which allows the U.S. government to return immigrants who entered the U.S. from Mexico to Mexico until their immigration proceedings.

• Increase U.S. government resources given to organizations, like faith-based organizations and non-profits, that support asylum-seekers.

• Rescind the “Muslim Bans”

• Increase the number of asylum officers to make the asylum seeking process more efficient

• Restore asylum eligibility for victims of domestic violence whose governments cannot or will not protect them

  • This was a former asylum qualification that Trump rescinded.

• Apply asylum eligibility to those fleeing political persecution.

• Double the number of immigration judges, court staff an interpreters so that asylum seekers need not wait years before their cases are heard

• End for-profit detention centers
